Blair is ideally situated for guests to take full advantage of historic Ayrshire, the birthplace of
Robert Burns. Dalkeith House, Culzean Castle, Kelburn Castle, The Covenanters caves, and the ancient Norman Towers which abound along the coast are all of great interest.
Golfing enthusiasts are spoiled for choice with five top-class courses within easy distance, including
Royal Troon, home of The Open in 2004, and Prestwick where the first Open Golf Championships were held. There are over 40 courses within a 40 minutes drive of Blair.
The local islands are easily reached by ferry from Largs or Ardrossan, both of which are
15 minutes drive away. Cumbrae, which is reached from Largs, has bicycles for hire, gentle walks, beachs and
a ruined Abbey to explore. Arran, is somewhat larger, and there is Brodick Castle which is worth visiting,
a bus which tours round the island and more vigorous walking (including mountains). Largs was the site of a Viking invasion and there are exhibitions pertaining to the battle as well as a good
swimming pool and soft-play area. The local main town, Irvine has a large sports centre (Magnum) with indoor
and outdoor swimming pool, flumes, water slides, spa pools, cinema, soft play and ice-skating available.
Kelburn Country Park near Largs is also worth a visit – farm animals, birds of prey, Secret Forest and
adventure play areas. The Magnum Centre in Irvine has a tremendous fun pool and ice skating in addition to a wide variety of activities.
For boating/sailing enthusiasts there are boats to hire at Castle Semple near Lochwinnoch, as well
as bikes for a gentle cycle round the Loch. If your boating interests lean more towards power boats, Josh Gilchrist at Total Yachting (07811 361 852) is worth a call.
There is clay pigeon shooting at the North Ayrshire Shooting School (01294 833 297), just outside Dalry and over towards West Kilbride there is a quad-bike centre (01294 823 014). Please note that the minimum age for the quad bikes is 13.
